Television Programme – The Somme, The first 24 Hours with Tony Robinson available on the Yesterday Channel and You Tube.
The Meakin Diaries features the diaries of Frank Meakin, who fought for the Sheffield City Battalion in World War 1. His diaries were heavily featured by the ‘Discovery Channel’ on a programme called ‘ The Somme, the First 24 Hours’ produced by Dragonshead Productions. The programme is about the Sheffield City Battalion narrated by Sir Tony Robinson who interviews my husband Nick and myself about the Battalion and their activities, all of which are included in the book. The diaries were also featured in the BBC production of the ‘Somme Commemorations’ on 1st July 2016, with Dan Snow and Huw Edwards, where I read extracts. The book includes a Foreword written by Tony Robinson :
‘The Meakin Diaries are an honest, unpretentious account of one young, Sheffield man’s journey to the Battle of the Somme, and the lovely Penny Meakin, with whom I spent a fascinating afternoon filming, has done a tremendous job bringing t hem to life for the general reader.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in the First World War and those who fought in it.’
The Meakin Diaries are available in both paperback (10.99) and hardback (£16.99) from Austin Macauley, Amazon, W H Smith, Waterstones and any other well known book sellers.
